Silent Key (April 15th, 2023)
Hi all,
I added a Glentel LTR system to Calgary today. I have just noticed the frequencies and tested them out - they appear to be LTR, as they have the "mike click" type sounds that LTR channels often do - but because my only time listening to them was at 0500 this morning, no voice traffic was found. I'll see what I get on the drive home tonight.
There is an 850mhz frequency in Canmore as well, and I drove thru there yesterday trying to pin it down. As it is owned by Sundance Radio, I figured it too was LTR. I could get traffic on it in conventional mode, but with it plugged into LCN #1 of an LTR configuration (on my 996), I got nothing. So it's either a weird LTR system with the (only) frequency in something other than LCN #1, or it's a conventional channel. I couldn't determine exactly what I was hearing, either - sounded courier-ish, but didn't have the time to sit there all day and sleuth it out.
I've also figured out the proper freqs for Canmore Fire/EMS. The 169.8/163.56 pair is their repeater, with 163.56 being the output on pl 123.0 Hz. One of the other freqs I had for them, 169.56, lit up just before I got into town, too, but not with Canmore - with Trochu Fire! According to the TAFL, the freq is licensed to Trochu and some other agencies in Kneehill County. I think the reason I caught it was that they were speaking with "Rocky Dispatch" - evidently Rocky Mountain House has picked up Kneehill County now, much as STARS does Mountain View County.
I also heard some garbled/distorted voices on a couple of the old EDACS frequencies this morning. I don't know if it's bleedover from adjacent channels, receiver overload from nearby transmitters, or what. I'll keep logging info as I grab it.
