Every so often, I hear a 1 kHz tone transmitted on 155.055 for 5 seconds, then nothing else. It sounds like how you would tone out a department, but there is no call made. Just the 1 kHz tone for 5 second. Does anyone know what this might be about, or the reason?

without knowing the hardware they are using, it could be a local alarm at the site...a error code from a repeater / controller, a hardware error alarm, PA fail, high SWR alarm, on generator power alarm...etc.
