They don't do East vs West anymore. That all changed several months ago. I'm pretty sure there was a discussion here on that. Alpha is the "dispatch" channel, and all calls are assigned to the Bravo or Charlie dispatcher to ensure a balance. If things get really hairy (hasn't happened yet), they can activate Delta as well. But right now Delta is the MCI & Special Events channel.
When they're dispatched, protocol requires that they remind the crew to switch to the correct VR to avoid interference, because the crew needs to do that on the main radio & portable as a separate process from the channel change. It'd be nice if the radios could to that automagically, but alas.
