I saw an AMR unit running code this morning. Blew past me on Bush Highway, lights & sirens, ending up at Butcher Jones. I hope they're giving those guys special training for driving on Bush between Usery mountain and SR 87. Not only is the road full of twists and turns, but you need to watch out for the wild horses that occasionally cross Bush, plus the ones out at Butcher Jones.

Amen!! I was in a Ambulance vs Horse crash many, many years ago on the White Mountain Apache Reservation while running code with a critical pt. We were in a van type II, the horse hit the front and the hind quarter swung around taking out the sliding side door. Driver had to be extricated and I was banged up as well. The patient did survive being transported by another unit.

Using my inside knowledge I will clarify some misinformation. AMR is not taking over Rural Metro. Envision Helathcare, who owns AMR, purchased Rural Metro. AMR and Rural Metro are now a subsidy of Envision. Operations will remain separate but resources and technology will be shared.

Wow! Sounds pretty bad. I'm glad everyone survived (though I'm sure the horse didn't). If you've ever driven in that area, you'd know running lights and sirens is a bad idea, especially for a call they were being asked to stage for (suicidal person). An MCSO deputy also went code 3, but those guys are used to driving on that road. I'm sure the ambulance guys were white-knuckling it the whole time, especially the passenger. hahahaha. It might've been in their favor that they were driving a Type II van since those aren't as top heavy as a Type 1 or 3 and would be less likely to roll if they took a corner too fast.

It's kind of interesting, though. With as much time as I spend out there with the horses, this is the first time I've seen any sort of fire/ems crew out there and for them to be a "foreign" company (wink), was strange to me.

There has been no actual purchase yet...its basically a gentleman's agreement at this point stating their desire to acquire Rural Metro and their assets pending regulatory approval

Well, we are usually the last to find out..but last I heard no money has been exchanged yet. Either way...if it brings raises with it im all for it. 5+ years with no raise is ridiculous. But thats a discussion for another completely unrelated message board.

Well locally here in CFL I get a 4% raise every year. But yes, discussion for another thread.
