Good morning all

Does anyone know what the new codes AA Fire is using? I have heard "Code 36" a few times in the last day or so. Are there others as well?

Thanks

I have heard it various times. I think it has to do with the Flu.

This is correct, a code 36 is a patient exhibiting symptoms of H1N1. This code is used in a number of jurisdictions throughout the state of MD.

Speaking of codes...

I've wondered for some time but never bothered to ask before...

Could some knowledgeable person please list for me (all) what the "Status" codes are that are used by AACo FD?

I am pretty sure that Status 6 is like "In service in response area" and Status 7 is "Out of service - out of area"...but it would be nice to have the 'official' versions of the codes.

And while I'm at it... :)

Can someone shed some light on the codes use for the map coordinates? I liked it better in the 'old days' when we all use the legendary 'Thomas Map Book' but I suspect the current codes are referring to some sort of GPS or online mapping data. Any way to 'tap into' that knowledge now?

Thanks in advance to the wizard with the answers!

EMS units (ambulance, Medic Unit & Paramedic Unit) status 3 is responding; status 4 is on location, and status 5 is transporting patient to hospital

The map coordinates are for ADC mapbooks of Anne Arundel County. It's a page number, then grid coordinates. They are available at several places around that sell maps as well as directly from the maker.

ADC Map - Street Maps and Road Atlases for the mid-Atlantic US

I remember the mapbook costing about $30 but they are very, very detailed. They also have some computer based products that seem really interesting but they are in the hundreds of dollars price range.

Status 8 is OUT OF SERVICE....meaning unit will not be picked for calls by CAD......and dispatcher knows that unit can not be dispatched. mainly used for mechanical...but can be used for other reasons

When an engine crew, ect goes responding they say for example Engine __ responding 3 with 1. What is the "3 with 1" or "3 with 0"

first number is total staffing of unit including officers; second # is number of officers on unit. the two are not added together so 3 with 1 is 3 total one of which is an officer

I heard something werid today:

Engine 81 advised they needed a repeater channel. Fire Alarm advised Tac 2 (Charlie) is a repeater channel.

I heard them - I think they are playing with the VRS (Vehicle Repeater System). Odd thing is I heard another company also playing with it too just a day or two ago... Not sure what the sudden interest is - it's been installed in units at every (or nearly every) station for several years... perhaps just curious and/or coincidence.

What is VRS? It's a "local repeater" mounted in an engine or truck company that is designed to be able to be used as a "scene local" tower (repeater). The purpose is to extend the range of portable radios in weak areas or when the portable radios are being used deep in a building and it has trouble reaching the towers around the county. An example of a location where I've seen it used is at Baltimore Washington Medical Center (BWMC) - a.k.a. North Arundel Hospital and the prison in Jessup. However, it isn't used much..... and because it isn't used much it presents a problem at an emergency scene - you don't want to end up losing communications with units/crews on the scene...
