The camera situation is due to videos like Tom zebra on YouTube that ask questions then twist allot of the footage making it seem one says something they dont. One simple error in choice of harmless words these days can create a storm. That's the anti police community creating those alerts. It don't help guys like Tom zebra or whatever his real name is carry a scanner while harassing officers on legit duties. It also doesn't help those cases when they film and admittedly listen for calls and go to the calls or traffic stops and film then yelling or harassing law enforcement during these situations.

Anecdotal Accounts
When I read accounts of LE being compromised by irresponsible cretins listening to a police scanner, I wonder how much is true and false. I don't recall ever reading anything about compromised officer safety as a function of having a police scanner. Typically, I observe where people deposit their opinions like a dysenteric cur, but facts are often omitted.
Here in Waco, the Waco PD PIO helped me by sending the exact wording needed for obtaining the new P25 trunking system fleet map via freedom of information act. He walked me through the entire process. The officer said he wanted the general public to be involved and for them to be able hear the exciting, scary, and funny things that are often encountered by LE on a daily basis. He also indicated there would be an obvious need for encryption for SWAT, Narcotics and other sensitive information.
I am in the process of editing nearly 5 hours of recording on my Uniden 436 specific to the Twin Peaks shooting that happened here.
Guess what? Nothing was encrypted. The officers were in charge of the crime scene. I hear that some even used cell phones for communication without having to throw the encryption switch. No officers were seriously harmed during this troglodyte gun orgy.
Sure, I fully support using encryption for more sensitive information such as Vice and Narcotics, but not for dispatch.
With all of the recent officer shootings in these United States, it is time the citizens helped LE out by watching their back when needed.
Many of the offenders I have encountered through twenty-two years of working inside the Texas Department of Criminal Justice are too stupid to write their own name. I seriously doubt any of them could program a digital scanner.
Of course, there are exceptions to the rule. The Connolly 7 prison escape was a good example of such. Yes, they used an analog scanner in the commission of the crimes they committed. But, no matter how much planning was employed by these cretins, they did some very stupid things and eventually got caught.
