I have a SG7900 2m/440 mobile antenna. Problem is is that the top whip fell victim to my father in-law. My question is is there a way I can use a metal rod the same length as the whip, or replace the whip or replace the antenna?

You can go to most hobby stores that sell radio controlled airplane accesories and get a
3' piece of stainless steel music wire. It is used for control reod and landing gear.

Tech note; that stuff is also known as piano wire. It was once used to control the aerodynamic surfaces of full sized aircraft but has been replaced by twisted steel rope. So then, why is the computer aided local actuator control used in today's high tech jet fighters called fly by wire?
