To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey folks, seeing if anyone has any recommendations for a mobile antenna that can TX/RX in the 450mhz range and do RX only for 7-800mhz. Im thinking about getting a Harris XG100m and found a EM wave MWU4002S duplexer that splits vhf 108-180 and then 380-870. Trying to minimize antennas on the vehicle but a dedicated VHF Is a requirement. Thanks for you time, looking forward to your suggestions.

This is a triband but it works about the same as all the other triband cop antennas including the PCTEL mentioned above and it only costs $38 with shipping. I have most of the expensive cop antennas and this one hangs with the expensive PCTEL, Larsen, Laird, EM Wave, Sti-Co and others just fine.

I'm running these on XL-200M's at work, haven't had any issues.

In addition to the Larsen, I've also tried these out on my work and personal truck:
Mobile omni whip antenna, rugged design, tri-band covering 136-960 MHz A little pricy, but worked well. Not sure it's worth the extra cost.

EM Wave EM-M43002 Tri-Band 150-162/450-490/763-870 MHz Mobile Antenna - 17.7 in - NMO - Spring Base A little less expensive than the Larsen.

Awesome, I really appreciate all the feedback and recommendations. It sounds like just get a tri band for uhf/7-800 and rock a vhf separately.. that makes a lot of sense. Thanks again for the input folks! I may be back with some xg100m questions at some point:)

But a triband already covers VHF, most do about 136-174, 380-512 and 769-896 and some go into the 900s. If you want slightly better performance on VHF you could get a 5/8 wave but you will be trading a little gain for narrow band with, less than about 10MHz.

Yeah, I have a preferred 1/2 wave VHF that I have in mind for the Installation. I was looking for something that covers uhf for tx/rx and 7-800 for rx only, it sounds like a triband would be the move.. unless it would make sense to get a monoband uhf antenna that would also work for rx/7-800.

If you -just- want UHF and 700/800/900MHz, you can do one of these:

No idea how well they work, but they do look silly. Not sure you'd gain much by just having an antenna that specific. Not sure if it includes the "kick me" sign to go on your back, or if you have to supply your own.

Wow.. hahaha thats an interesting looking antenna.. surely em wave made that for a contract they didn't like! Thanks for digging that up mmckenna! What are your thoughts on just rolling with a monoband uhf antenna for tx/rx and 7-800 rx only?

How important is this? Is this for public safety use, or is this just for hobby use?

If you are not transmitting on 7/800, and it's not a trunked radio that's going to try to affiliate, then it's not going to hurt anything to try. I'd start with a 1/4 wave UHF antenna and see how it does. Might fall smack in the middle of "good enough" territory.

If it doesn't work well enough, then go with one of the above mentioned antennas.

The uhf and 7-800 side of the radio isn't for commercial or public safety use so not super critical, also not going to be affiliated with trunked networks, just "NAS" for trunked things. I appreciate the advice, I think ill pick up a 1/4 wave uhf and give it a go. Thanks again for your time!
