Listen to what some of these guys are telling you to get rid of your interference. Most systems are very strong around here, and you don't need a good antenna, unless your trying to receive it from far away.

I find either a VHF,or even a CB whip, with the antenna cut down some, work best for most of the 800 systems around here.A short UHF whip on a VHF loading coil seems to work good too.

As you get further out in the fringe areas, then a Larsen or other 800 Mhz antenna will work better.

Whatever you do,get NMO mounts,so you can swap antennas as needed.

Motorola's are the way to go.In places the scanner will go deaf (you won't know it unless you have a moto on at the same time),and the moto receives just fine. They are rugged, and have much better sound quality than any scanner.

The moto gear is getting scarce (except for beater maxtracs). If you get lucky, you might find some used stuff cheap. You still need to get it programmed though.Shoot me a PM,I can help you with installs, antenna, and moto gear.I'm not to far from you either.
