I bought the ST-2 and it works well. I also was reading on another site that a Radio Shack cable TV / satellite amplifier works well and bought one of them. It screws on at the antenna and has a wall wart at the shack end. But a thunderstorm rolled througth Lancaster a couple of days later and took out the preamp. It was quoted as 7-10db and was enough to overcome cable loss. LAPD and LAFD could be heard with the amplifier, and San Bernardino Co. Sheriff / Fire in Wrightwood and Victorville. Once it blew and was removed I couldn't hear these again.
So, I went online and found another one on Strong Signals that was 11db. The power injector from the Radio Shack model was fine and the new model covered 30-3000MHz. The Radio Shack one only covered 50-2100MHz. CHP comes in better now as well.
I suspect that these amplifiers are poorly made -- is there a way of protrecting them from lightning strikes nearby?
