I just bought a 396xt and have been using my sons Windows machine to program it. I was wondering if there were any programs that would work on a Mac. I have tried google to no avail.

Uniden doesn't support OS X.

But you can run windows in vmware or parallels on your mac, to run sentinel and program your radio. It works best with an sdcard reader and not hooking up your radio directly to the USB port.

I do it all the time and have had no issues.

There are several monitor programs on this site that will run on a mac but are not for programming your radio.

We need more mac users to pressure Uniden for mac support. It is surprising because most electronics do support both mac and windows now.

If Uniden doesn't support OS X why are they putting out the apple siren app first? Seems kinda strange to me, like the right hand dont know what the left hand is doing.

In response to the OPs question, yes the guy that writes Freescan is working on a Mac version.

Using iMac on BCD996XT

I'm running Windows on Mac and have ARC-XT Pro controlling my Uniden BCD996XT radio. I've also used other Butel programs to control my BCD396 handheld radio. It's a little buggy but it does work. Happy to walk you through the setup but note you will need to buy Parallels and a copy of the Windows OS. I use Parallels 10 and have Windows 7. I'm running on the latest Mac OS, Yosemite v. 10.10.

Thanks for the offer. At this point I have no intentions of putting windows on here, I will just continue to use my sons computer. It really pains me to have to use Windows for anything anymore.

Actually that is a public beta OS and not the current release, yet! Maybe in a few days when they actually release the gold master.

The current non-beta version is Mavericks 10.9.5.
