If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Looks interesting if it indeed does DMR & NXDN.

I'm guessing the NXDN is some kind of future option? There's got to be a catch.

From what I briefly saw on Facebook, it looks like NXDN will be an upgrade option in mid-2026.

According to the owner's manual for the 890, the NXDN capability cannot be activated until permission is received from JVCKenwood. Apparently, Kenwood must hold the patent on NXDN.
Hrm... I wonder how they can even legally make that specification claim then..? Seems like a class action lawsuit just waiting to happen.

It would be Kenwood and Icom.

I doubt there's a big challenge with this. Lisheng ( Lisheng Communications Co., Ltd. ) already produces an NXDN portable, as do others.

Yay...

Can't wait for the onslaught of dumbasses and Bridgecom Boomers on NXDN. This has all the signs of the Chinese-fication of NXDN that DMR experienced when the TYT MD series radios started flooding the market.

I'm already at a point with DMR that I can't stomach the crap I hear on there. "You are 5 by 9 here on talkgroup 91 and please log me in QRZ for our crummy contact that consisted of me giving out my call sign multiple times like I'm calling in a air strike and a weather report".

But, nothing wrong with more people using a digital protocol and this is the 1st sign that we might have a multi-protocol radio that is more affordable than the current Kenwood NX line.

To answer the question, I'll buy one but given Anytone's track record, I'm going to give it a few months for them to get enough suckers to beta test it for them. The 878 was a mess at the beginning. Great radio now, just needed a lot of work to get it where it is today. NXDN is phenomenal and I'd be curious to see how well the Anytone plays with the Kenwood gear I have laying around.

I would really like to purchase a radio like this with two digital modes DMR/NXDN included.

Will wait to see if both are in radio, since already have enough DMR radios and don't need any other DMR radios at this point.

No real NXDN ham repeaters in my local area anyway, but do have a NX-800 if this radio gets more activity on NXDN ham radio I see it as a plus

That is the reason I only use local talkgroups on DMR and never use wide area ones.
