• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Looks like Motorola, Hytera and Kenwood won't be there. So far I only have 3 signed up for my class so it looks like it and maybe other ETA classes will cancel.

Yeah, I'll be there. Not so much an option. I paid for the full conference back in 2020, and they didn't do refunds, only moved it to this year.

Kenwood wasn't at APCO either. Sort of a messed up year with the timing. Maybe things will get back to normal next year.
Motorola was an APCO.

BK and Motorola were at FDIC, don't recall seeing Kenwood but it was a big show.
Motorola sent me an email thanking me for stopping by their APCO booth even though I wasn't there.

You can probably thank @Project25_MASTR for that. Better make sure you don't have any wants/warrants in Texas, while you are at it.

Never been to LV in late September. Hope the temps aren't too hot.

I was there in August many years ago. 118º.

Nice thing is you can stay mostly inside.
Late September should be a bit better, but with the way weather has been this year, I'd not count on anything. Might be 120º, might be able to ride a snowmobile down the strip.

Nice thing about working on everyone's radio stuff on the I-35 corridor...I get off with a lot of warnings (or get escorted).
One of the Moto techs I worked with got pulled over by the CHP one day. The officer asked Jim if he had the tool to tighten the screw holding the volume knob to the shaft because it was loose. Fortunately Jim did.

Sorry I missed you guys, got done teaching early and left town.
If you are looking for the registration desk from the convention center drive entrance walk north until you see Nellis AFB and go back 100 yards, it's a long walk and there are hardly any signs.
Don't forget your QR code like I did.

So far, I've learned that walking to the convention center, from the hotel, is far easier than taking the hotel provided bus , to the wrong side of the convention center, and having to figure out how to get on the correct side...

Yeah, when I got there on Monday I parked by the South Hall since that's where it was last time.

Mistake #1.

I decided to walk.

And walk.

And walk.

There was some sort of medical packaging conference going on. Lots of people with shiny shoes, and for some reason a couple of cheerleaders. So I knew I was on the wrong side of the tracks as no radio guy would wear shiny shoes and rate cheerleaders.

So I walked some more.

Eventually I made it to the West Hall. Stumbled into the wrong conference. Got redirected to the wrong place, which involved more walking. Eventually made it all the way down the far end by the construction. Found people dressed like me and a definite lack of cheerleaders.

I think this part of the convention center is so new the paint probably isn't dry yet. There seems to be a lack of accurate signage (and cheerleaders). Also a lack of people working there that know what's going on.

Couple that with an expo that's about 20% the size of years past, and I'm disappointed. I'm running on the access pass I purchased in late 2019. If I got to do it over again I would have skipped this IWCE and had them push my pass off until March of next year.

Pisser was I had one of our sergeants flown out to meet with some vendors. He's a ham so I talked it up a bit. He enjoyed it, but I think he really missed out.

Honestly, the entire conference was quite... underwhelming.

Even the presentations lacked a lot to be desired. A lot of the old "Broadband is going to save us from our wicked LMR selves."

I'll echo you on the part about how I probably should've waited until the March conference. However, I can't really justify going again six months from now.

Yeah, we were disappointed, but had already paid for the tickets, so felt kind of stuck. The other guy that went with me was going to air some grievances with IWCE about that. I had one of our sergeants flown in to look at the Harris gear, and have been able to talk him into going in the spring. Hopefully it's back up to size.

Yeah, I only went to a few, then stopped. Actually the few minutes I had to talk to Budge was worth the trip, solved a few issues for me.

I'm doing my travel/training budget for next year, and am only going to go for the trade show part. I'll wait until 2023 before I do the whole thing again.
