The gas distribution company for my area operates a SCAT/ wideband EDACS network
for voice/data communications in the 450-470Mhz UHF band.

http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=2634

My PSR500 has only 2 choices for EDACS modes... Wide and Narrow.
My old 296d has a choice of programming SCAT by choosing that setting..

I looked in the manual for the PSR500 and SCAT is mentioned, but how to program a
TSYS object for SCAT is not. Could someone advise on how to do this??
The big problem is that there is very little traffic at night on this system so I have no way of verifying whether my settings are correct, if I, for instance just program
the one local SCAT control channel frequency 452.5875 as an EDAC wide system (which is what I have done, although I have heard no traffic on a wildcard TGRP object. There was
some activity heard when I was in tune mode set to 452.5875
I checked out a link from a MA/COM SCAT base station and apparently SCAT is supposed to be a 9600 bps control channel.
Edacs wide is 9600 baud as well. This seems the most logical choice.
Can someone confirm this??

Don't know about the new GRE scanners, but in general, trunking
SCATs is a misnomer as the only thing they can really do is block the
idle-channel noise until voice comes through. There's no 9.6k control
data during voice (only low-speed). Even Etrunk has limited success;
sometimes it catches TG data when the call starts, freezes during the
voice, then manages to relock after the call finishes.

None of my scanners does SCATs but I can trunk the Ottawa Enbridge
3-channel system (and you might if you're in range).

Edit: if you're in/near Renfrew, I just noticed the Renfrew SCAT channel
and one of Ottawa's voice channels are the same; might make it
difficult.

It looks like you just program it as a EDACS STD as the first LCN.

Page 74 of the manual: EDACS control channel qq% S:ss h/H s/S a/A
where qq=decoding quality of the
control channel data, S=Site ID, h/
H=not home site/is home site, s/S=not
SCAT site/is SCAT site, a/A=not Aux
CC/is Aux CC
