• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Anyone order a Wouxun recently?

Good Customer Service.

Thanks for the info Ed. Makes it easier for us (the customer) to understand. You do a good job of keeping your customers informed. I do have 2 questions. I have read that the model numbers are different because they are going to different dealers. Also that the 2D and the 3D are the same radio. Are these things true? I don't want to buy a 2D if the 3D has a feature that I want and it's not available on the 2D. Can you clear this up.

I just ordered a battery eliminator from CT Morgan & Associates in Chattanooga TN and they are sold out. The gentleman told me he didn't know when they would be here, but will send when they arrive. He also told me that they have received word that shipments are about to get harder with stuff out of Asian countries because of the nuclear thing in Japan and that's why people are buying stuff as quick as it comes in to insure they have it. I have heard a Yaesu production plant is temporarily shut down, so if you want anything for the Wouxun radios, I suggest you order now if you can. You can get the radio & all the accessories for $177, so I would get what you need

Got my KG-UV2D from Hamworld in Alabama yesterday. Reading the manual?????? I see what people are saying about the translation. He was out of the programming cables and will send it soon as they come in. Now comes the hard part, getting the cable and getting it programmed. After I get it programmed, and I find a new repeater I want to put in, do I just add it to the spreadsheet an upload it to the radio. Have not seen any instructions on how to do this task.

ranger821,
That's basically how it's done, you're right. Pay attention to the categories/'slots' on that program, they aren't exactly 'geared' to how it's usually 'done' with ham software. Plug in the appropriate numbers for transmitting and receiving frequencies, tones, etc. If I'm not mistaken, the alpha-numeric 'names' are only available from the software programming, I think?

And just because...
Before 'upgrading' the supplied antenna with an aftermarket one, try this. Use a counterpoise attached to the (-) side of the antenna connector (that @#$ SMA connector). For 2 meters, something like 19 - 20 inches of wire (real flexible kind, insulated or not is up to you). I wrapped the end around the base of the threads of the SMA connector and just let it hang. You just turned that "1/4 wave" 'ducky' into a "1/2 wave" vertical 'ducky', and it will improve performance. Not an 'order of magnitude' improvement, but 'better'. Don't like that idea? Throw away that 10 cent 'improvement' and buy an aftermarket antenna!
- 'Doc

(For 2 meters about 19", for '220' about 12", not sure I'd bother for 70cm.)

Wirelessly posted (BB8330: BlackBerry8330/4.5.0.186 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/104)

I forgot to mention I got it from Wouxun.us. Awesome dealer right here in NC. He came highly recommended by many local hams.

Thanks guys. I plan to get a few accessories down the road a piece. Aftermarket antenna will be in there. Good info DOC. I have done that an it works good. Not with this one, but others. Is there a 2 meter side to the software and a 440 side. I guess you have to have the radio hooked up to the software before you can put the frequencies in.

OK. Folks. For you software guys and girls out there. Is there cable driver software for the KG-UVD2 that is for Windows 7. What I can find says for Vista and Win 7, but when it comes up, it says Vista only. Will my computer automatically search for the right cable drivers when I plug in the cable?? If not, suggestions as both of the computers in the house are Win 7.

I jumped on the Wouxun bandwagon as well and received mine today from Wouxun.us. I must say that for the price this little gem is unbeatable. In no time at all I had it unlocked for full transmit and receive and programmed with amateur, MURS, and GMRS (yes I'm licensed, WQHP695).

Exceptional bang for the buck!

Oh, dear God.... Please don't say things like that. All you are going to do is bring out the "type acceptance" zealots.....

Given that these radios are type accepted for such things I'm inclined to think your concern is not a valid one...

Oh, really??? That's funny, The KG-UV2D is Part 90 certified, NOT part 95 which is GMRS....

So yes.... My concern is a valid one.....

OK, maybe I'm mistaken. I thought that Part 90 covered GMRS. Is Motorola commercial gear part 95 accepted? I know it's used for GMRS. I'm not trying to start an argument, I simply did not know that a part 95 existed for GMRS.

No biggie.... Some are type accepted, and some are not.. You just have to look up the FCCID number on the FCC website. It will tell you.
