I once heard a neighbor making reservations at a motel giving CC info and addresses and all that. but NO I did not use the information for illegal purposes.

Edit: I did think about going to the address and telling them about phone security but I DIDN'T!

That was a wise choice!

From 1998 to 2000, I lived across the street from a women's sorority house near a small university on the East Coast. The young ladies used a cordless 46/49 MHz phone. Oh, the interesting conversations I picked up on my scanner!

Young man: "Yeah, baby, of course I love you! You mean everything to me."
Young lady: (sob) "So explain to me why Nicky saw you at a party on Saturday talking to some girl, then you left with her!"
Young man: "Ummm... I can explain..."
Young lady: "So it's true! You #######!!! #### you!!!"

Ahhh, those were the days.

Yes they were, i had fun scanning for those old phones back when i still had my PRO-2003 (still the best non-digital unit i ever owned). Ya know folks, this might be a bit of a shove, but if i were a bettin` man i`d be kinda all in on at least SOME people out there somewhere that are still using those old phones, hey it may be old, but as they say, if it ain`t broke, don`t fix it, and in the same idea, if the thing still works why quit using it? Ya just gotta remember to not say anything you don`t want anyone bad to hear over that cordless unit, really no biggie. I`d hazard a guess that these are out on a farm where they need something long range to talk back to the house or something on that order. Still, i`d lay a bet there`s still some of them phones still working out there yet :). N9NRA

I hold little doubt that one could still hear an old analog cordless on scanner in rural America. Not too long ago, someone could have heard ours.

A few years ago, we retired our last pair of off-white Uniden analog cordless phones. They were used in one of the barns. They are now stored in a cardboard box and still work great with VOIP adapters. Some lucky farmer or rancher will probably put them back in service after the farm's annual yard sale. :D

The only reason mine got replaced with something more modern was that the handset stopped working after being repeatedly abused by a couple of teenagers. I repaired it a few times but it was eventually beyond salvation. I always worried that the batteries would transition into the "unobtainium" category but that never happened, Batteries + Bulbs always had 'em in stock!

And that`s my thought here, someone somewhere just MIGHT be still using a pair of them old phones, i remember reading the manual for the unit my folks had, found out one could connect an external antenna "for longer range, as on a farm or for use between buildings at great distances", as the manual put it. So while a goodly lot of them units are now likely sittin` in cold storage, i bet there`s a few out there in the remote areas that still use `em, mainly for cheap intercoms, which a lot of them could do too, and quite well from what i remember of the one my folks owned :). After my parents bought one of those Uniden cordless phones, I made sure to always use a corded phone. In the military, living in a densly populated area, I had a Uniden scanner and listened to many people on these phones. I had my corded Sony phone and people sometimes asked why I had not gone wireless. I just said that those phones were too expensive.

Made for some awesome entertainment listening to all the conversations.

That's hilarious! Ah! To have been young back then! Listen to all kinds of cool stuff that is now..sadly gone.

Don't forget the 46-49MHz baby monitors as well. Probably some of those still around, as most families would only use them for a couple of years and then pass them on to friends/relatives or the local Goodwill.

I didn't make a habit of listening to phone calls but I did overhear one once where a husband was in Chicago at a seminar and called his wife when he got back to his hotel room and was telling her how boring the seminar was and how tired he was, and he sounded sincere. She was constantly b itching at him and accusing him of cheating on her which he denied. She no sooner hung up with him and dialed a number which turned out to be the guy "she" was cheating with.

As far as people using another's phone line to make toll calls I learned of this during a criminal investigation...yes this is theft.

I know you're think the first was too, but we had a WT warrant for that one. I continued to scan until I found our drug operation which used these phones extensively not only to make deals but they were used by the lookout outside to warn those inside of any police presence, unbeknownst to them that the 5-0 was listening..

The newer phones are have been DECT 6.0 on 1.9GHz for the past decade. 5.8 was nice but I never saw too many of those. There is also the Durafon 1x FHSS 900MHz fone now too, works better than the 40mjz for long range.
