• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Anything new on the horizon?

Thinking more about this. Although a base mobile/base version most likely isn't in the cards, a mobile cradle for a G4/G5 might be an option. The G4/G5 would sit in the cradle, with connections for an external antenna, power and external speaker. Similar to an amplified base, but without the speaker and amp.

I'm planning on buying an amplified base after I get my G4, but it would be hard to mount the amplified base in my SUV. There's just not enough real estate for something like that and I don't want it tumbling around the passenger seat.

At least dreams are still free..... :ROFLMAO:
Touche! And even that would be something I would be okay with. Think Motorola Convertacom.

I can't find it right now, but I've read of guys taking the normal base charger stand and adding antenna connections from that to a connector on the back of the charging base. That stand is somewhat smaller and also would eliminate the amp section and speaker that comes with the amplified base and might be easier to find a place to mount. Somewhere on here someone posted a pin out of the terminals on the bottom of the pagers but again, I just can't find it at the moment.

I've fantasized for several years of 3D printing a new shell for an amplified G3/4/5 charger that is virtually identical to the OEM component, with the major alteration being the charger's pager socket/seat being relocated from the broad top surface as it exists from the manufacturer to the area where the speaker and volume control knob are. All components from an actual, real amplified charger would be installed in this 3D-printed shell, and holes added to left and right side for addition of metal female threads, so a bracket could be added for space-saving, efficient mobile mounting, either under dash or within a console system. It would only take up 3" or perhaps 4" of faceplate real estate. Obviously, the printed version's exterior dimensions would be a bit modified from the "real" amp charger's, but it seems like an attainable project for someone handy with this sort of thing. . . which would count me out; I'm just an idea guy.

This is a fantastic idea..sending to my buddy with a 3D printer now... lol
