Anytone Anytone 878 "Cannot Open Communications Port"

I got an AT 878 the other day. I successfully programmed it several times, but now if I try I get a "Cannot open communications port" error message when i try to read or write to the radio.

I made sure the correct com port was selected. I installed the programming software on a second computer and got the same error message.

Has anybody else experienced this? Cant think of what else to try.

Made some progress on this. I noticed if I turn on the radio and plug in the radio at the same time I need to press "write to radio" at the same time and it will go into PC mode. If I wait for the radio to boot it wont go into PC mode.

Also it doesn't stay in PC mode very long after writing to the radio.

I guess I have a work around. Im not sure why, but I don't think I had to do that before.

Always plug in, and turn on the radio before you run the CPS. When you write to the radio, the radio power cycles and sometimes you have to exit the CPS, unplug the radio, plug the radio back in (and turn the radio on if it's not already on), then run the CPS again. The CPS is stupid about this, because it apparently opens a USB connection when you read or write to the radio, and keeps the same connection open as the radio power cycles. Since the USB device is actually in the radio, and not in the cable, when the radio power cycles, Windows drops the device, and confuses the CPS. The CPS should open a fresh connection after ever read or write but it doesn't.
