I'm having trouble finding suitable software for my 8200mk3 to run on my notebook running Windows 7 64 bit. All I have found via Google so far is software from JAOR, Scan Cat Gold and Butel but they all run up to XP and no further.

I'm taking it travelling with me and would like to use it with my notebook. Any suggestions?

This seems to come up a lot. Assuming you still have or can come by Windows XP installation media, you should be able to download VirtualBox (free) and setup a Windows XP virtual machine running within your Windows 7 machine. VirtualBox should not have an issue passing control from the USB port on your computer to the Windows XP virtual machine, although I believe there is an add-on pack to VirtualBox as a separate download to enable using the USB interfaces.

Hi John,
Thanks and yes I came across this in my search and have used it and it works very well as a channel manager. I was looking for something with a bit more functionality in it like virtual and settings control.

They offer a trial usage of their software. If you have the radio and cable then give it a shot. I've ordered the cable and the radio itself should be here next week. The cable takes a week or two to get to the US from England

Received Cable and Software

I received the cable and software today. It connects fine with my Mark III. I had to plug/unplug/reboot to get it to find the correct comport in the software, but it seems to work well with Windows 7. Now I have to learn it and the radiio. Would like to see your experiences and I'll share mine. So far I've discovered the Power button is on the left....in orange (-:

Cable and software

Still waiting for mine to arrive. Glad you found the power button. I learned how to scan between two frequencies. Ha. I'm seriously debating whether or not to keep the radio. I'm not picking up as much as I thought I would. Spoiled by desktop receivers. I'll wait for the software and cable to play with it some more. I'll let you know how it goes also.

So has anyone actually bought the software and received the plug (or used an alternative) and is willing to share how it works with the forum? I'm keen to try this however I'm skeptical.
