Firmware updater tool now available for AOR AR5700D communication receiver
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Until now, firmware updates for the AR5700D receiver could only be carried out through official AOR distributors. With this new tool, users can now perform updates themselves using a Windows PC and standard hardware connections.

Important Note

The update procedure requires a moderate level of technical knowledge and access to specific hardware tools. Read the provided instructions carefully. If you are not confident, we recommend contacting an official AOR distributor to perform the update. Please note that shipping and servicing charges may apply.

The updater package (including firmware files), and instructions pdf are available at:

Thanks for posting. This eliminates one of the negatives about the receiver for me since I have no problem doing the updates.

As of 28th September, 2025 the latest Firmware for the AOR AR5700D is:

Main_403A D4NCA P508A

The receiver no longer needs to be returned to an AOR authorised dealer for updating.
To manually update the Firmware, please read this original post:

I was successful in updating my AR5700D. The only update I needed was the Panel to 508A. Given how AOR numbers their versions, this is a update from August 2025. I also updated DigiDec as it says to do. I think you do the DigiDec update each time because the updater can not get the version. It is too bad there is no updated firmware version list yet.

I initially had problems because the Null Modem (cross) cable did not work. A straight female-female cable did work. I also discovered a real hardware serial port will not work, likely due to baud rate limitations.

I used a IOGear USB GUC232A Serial Dongle (a rebadged ATEN UC232A). If the serial number is Z3 or Z8 and the third character is a letter, then it has a supported Prolific chip (post-2012). The Windows 10/11 driver I use is v1.1.102 for the ATEN.

When I pressed the Panel button I got a pop-up window with further steps. They made updating easier than the AR-Alpha as only a small panel on the bottom of the receiver is removed to change the dip switches. I followed the procedure without any problems.

I went through the procedure for the DigiDec update using the I/Q Out. The I/Q driver has to be installed. Again another pop-up windows was display when I pressed DigiDec. It does take a while and several OPEN ERROR messages occurred for some reason. The process continued until it displayed success after about 10 minutes. I turned off the receiver by the main power switch and turned it back on. Everything still works and the version display reflects the new firmware. My receiver now has:
Main_403AR D4NC P508A

The possibility of updating the receiver yourself and making it evolve is an advantage, which was not possible with the 5700D. On the other hand, Aor remains behind compared to ICOM on the software plan: the hardware is of very good quality, but the software monitoring presents limits.

This update breaks audio playback on the receiver from the SD card, playback is now so muffled and distorted it is unusable. If you use that don't load this update.

I have started, installation of the tool and cable connexion 3 cables the 2 delivered with the 5700d ( 1 on the USB and 1 on the IQ) and also the 3rd with the Db9.... Procedure is very not clear not detailed.... I have achieved to do the check but I don t want to do more without a clear procedure and have the guaranty of good firmware without bugs.... If someone is more expérimented and can describe precisely step by step with pictures... Can help us a lot !
I don t understand why AOR don t do it ???
What we have to connect ? What steps we must follow, what is the séquence of upgrades ? Start by what ? Open the receiver ? Change what ? Good tool sure but not explained by AOR Grrrrrrrrr !

First connect the AR5700D to the PC as in the PDF file from AOR. I used the serial cables as in the discription. The two USB cables that are always connected to the PC, don't disconnect them. Turn the radio upside down and open the small cover to reach the dipswitches.
Open the AOR updater software and follow the steps as in the AOR PDF file. If your connection with the AR5700D and PC is ok, fill in the serial number from the radio and press version check. Than you can start the update proces. If you start the update proces, small photo's show you, how to set the dipswitches in the AR5700D. Please see attached photo's. The firmware update is from August 2025. Greatings Jacco, the Netherlands

Thanks a lot PA9900 I keep your procedure preciously I am surprised because I don t seen explanation of connexion in the AOR procédure. You discuss about the pdf joined with the upgrade tool in AOR site ?
I read it we see detail on the serial câble need for the rest ... Not very clear....
The upgrade tool software works with the USB câble when I select serial cable in the list the check not run but when I look your picture your upgrade tool software works with the standard USB,.... When serial Db9 works ? during update ?
Thanks for your explanation you help a lot of people !!!

I'm glad to see that one of the bigger gripes about the 5700 has been rectified, in that AOR is now allowing the consumer to upgrade the firmware. Sending a monster like this radio halfway across the world was not only a major hassle, but shipping and insurance fees can become prohibitive. I'm wondering if the audio playback issue mentioned in this thread has been resolved.

From some of the posts here in the forum, it seems some folks also ran into unexpected error messages. I haven't even updated anything on my DV1 in several years. A friend has asked about the 5700, but I suggested he hold off until more comments appear here from those who have gone through the process.

Thanks to all those who shared their experiences.

Two bugs exist as of October 2025.

1. Since new Firmware update Main_403A D4NCA P508A recorded audio playback is distorted.

2. Cyber Search bug with step rate 8.33 kHz - not fixed!

For Cyber Search to operate, a Search Bank must be programmed as detailed Section 9.1, Page 28 of user manual. If Step Rate chosen is 8.33 kHz, when the receiver is now running Cyber Search, any signal received the receiver changes step rate to 9 kHz and continues. Eventually after time the receiver is now many kilohertz off frequency.

This bug is not a worry for United States. USA airband is 25 kHz.

Europe uses 8.33 kHz step for civil aircraft.

Can anyone tell me if any improvements have been made to DMR reception. I’ve always found the click at the start of every transmission very distracting, particularly when the actual voice levels are relatively low.
I live in hope that AOR might fix this someday.

Reading over the release notes in the PDF posted here, I'm seeing no mention about DMR reception
Thanks, I’m seriously beginning to wonder if it’s only my radio that does this on DMR.
AOR didn’t seem to know what I was talking about when I asked them about it.
I would be very grateful for any feedback from DMR listeners here, whether positive or otherwise.

Hello same for me ! DMR quality decoding not good and always "noise" like clac when com start

Managed to read the version numbers ok with the software so guessing the serial connection must be ok, but when it came to trying to write the update to the Main Board, after a few seconds I received the alert “bitrate adjust error “ and that seemed to halt the update in its tracks.
This was with only the dedicated serial port connected. Am I correct in assuming the I/Q usb connection is only used for the digidec update?
