Hi all

I have a AOR8000 and recently upgraded to a AOR8200 but the reception does not seem to be as good. Certain frequencies have a loud humming noise in the background and other frequencies all that can be heard is a scrambled unreadable noise yet when I swap back to my old AOR8000 the reception is perfect, I am using the same aerial as before and I have tried using the Attenuator but this does not help. Am I doing something wrong ?

Are you running on internal batteries or outboard power supply?? What are the freqs?? Since you say reception with the 8K is good, then I suspect a problem with the 8200...have you chosen the correct mode??

Is this a known good 8200 or a recent purchase?? I also have both and each radio's quirks can cause problems if you miss something in the setup or programming.

Get back to me, I am curious....is this the green case 8200??

This may be a stupid question , BUT , are you sure you have it in AM mode for airband , and not NFM or NAM?
I have a Green Case 8200 too , and IF you've got the right mode, then I'd bet you've got a defective radio............

Hi guys, I have a 8200 mark2. live in the UK, I haven't noticed any reception problems on my set though over here we can no longer pick up police, due to the fact they have gone digital.

Jimbob, I am Steve and I live in the UK, I too recently 'upgraded' from the 8000 to the 8200 (green mk1) in the hope that airband reception would may be even better from what i was experiencing with the 8000! God how I was wrong, the 8200 was very bad on certain frequencies with the same distortion and noise you mentioned! I was very happy that I did not get rid of my trustee 8000 before I discovered the truth about how bad the 8200 was! A well known reveiwer( think it was Rich Wells) stated that he thought AOR had taken 2 steps forward and one back with 8200! Construction quality and looks were much improved on the 8200, but reception, front end filtering and dynamic range deteriated with the 8200 o'h and I forgot battery consumption indeed he stated that he wished he could take the innerds from the 8000 and place them into the body of the 8200!
I quickly sold my 8200 on ebay and will never again consider getting rid of my 8000 as it really is the very BEST all round H/H receiver that I have owned!! Regards, Steve (UK)

I recommend to all AOR 8000 owners that they purchase the latest keypad that AOR UK developed for this receiver, It really does give a new lease of life and makes it very responsive over the old rubber type! I would sometimes need to press a rubber key a number of times before it would respond! This new keypad which is rubber but has a hard plastic coating on the surface of the keys wich also stops the figures from being worn away over time, is excellent, it costs about £8 and is well woth it! It takes about 10 mins to change over, the instructions for this mod are also on the website!
