How does a multi-tower APCO-25 DTRS system determine which agencies are transmitted from a given tower? :?
I live at the edge of a 10 tower system and I can only receive from that tower at the edge of the county when at home. When in town, I can pick up various agencies on several towers. However, on that remote tower at home, it seems to be a crap shoot on which agencies it transmits at a given time. Sometimes I get PD/FD/EMS traffic from town and somedays not.
I heard somewhere that the tower "tracks" the radios in it's immediate area and transmits their traffic. If no units from that agency are near that tower, it doesn't. I assume the traffic for agencies directly served by that tower are always active which would explain why I always get the rural county FD/SO.
Is this about right or totally full of ----?
