Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

We have some APX 4000 we need to do an Encryption Upgrade. Here is what we have done so far:

1) Sent radio to Depot to have encryption enabled, because radio was purchased with "No Encryption, Clear Radio"
2) Purchased encryption software from Motorola as follows:

- ADD: AES ENCRYPTION SOFTWARE
- ADD: DES,DES-XL,DES-OFB

My understanding of next steps should be using the KVL to load the info from the CD to the radios, and then program the radio with the new code plug?

Or should it be the other way round? Re-program the radio with the new code plug (with channels needing the encryption), and then using the KVL to load the info from the CD to the radios?

Or does it matter?

Thanks.

I think OP is asking about loading the algos from the KVL into the radio

Load the CD onto the KVL, you will see the upgrades show up. Then load the upgrades into the radio. Finally read the radio and make any changes to codeplug settings. Once that's done, use the KVL to load the encryption keys into the radio

If you don't load the algos into the radio first, they won't be reflected into the codeplug in the radio. Also make sure you have Multi key if loading more than 1 encryption key

If you had to send to depot to enable I don’t know why they couldn’t also deal with adding the correct algos? Seems counter intuitive.

Yea, this has been a long journey. Information passed to me indicated we needed the algo, so we bought that. Radio shop had hard time loading it, which is when we figured out with Motorola that there is some work to enable encryption only Depot can do. I should have asked if they can load the algo too. Rookie mistake.

I'm a little confused, some to me means more than one. APX 4000 implies "one". Sent radio, again singular. Are you only doing one radio or multiple as in all your APX4000s? Sorry for the confusion on my part.

If the radios went to the DEPOT to turn on encryption first thing I would do is put in test mode and see what algos show. If it shows ADP in the mace only then follow above to add your AES flash.
