• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

It wasn't until recently that my APX7000 (700/800 - VHF) started acting up. Sometimes it will let me plug it in and read it, other times it immediately calls the device unrecognizable and blocks it. Now most of the times I get it to read I have to then spend close to 15-20 minutes trying to get the damn thing to write. It has the following:

Host Version: R08.05.00
DSP Version: R08.05.00
Secure Version: R01.02.02
KG1 ADP
KG2 AES256
KG3 DES-XL
KG4 DES-OFB
Model Number: H97TGD9PW1AN
Serial Number: 655CLK####
ESN:0B33A20156######
FLASHcode: 141258-011492-3
Tuning Version: R01.10.02
Processor Version: OMAP1710

Any tips or tricks would be helpful. I remember seeing somewhere before a list of steps that someone used to follow to get the radio to read and write with no problems

Also, side note, after it connects to my computer I have maybe 45-60 seconds before it gets rejected and I have to start again.

Is there any particular reason you're still using firmware from 2010? What version CPS are you using?

CPS R14.00.00

I have the newest radio firmware out of every radio in the department :(

If it's black and runs fast, it's a Dodge Charger.

First thing I would do is update that firmware... It's free and easy. You should take it to 14.00.04...

Are you using a Motorola cable or a knockoff?

I'm not sure I would try updating the firmware if there's a problem reading or writing the radio.

I would try another computer with a fresh install.

I can't get a flash key, I can download the firmware updates through my MOL account but I have never been assigned an account manager to order a flash key

APX's do not need a flash key for a firmware refresh.

Okay, so now that I know that, I was able to connect and refresh the radio to R14.04.00 no problem, but now when I turn the radio on and plug it in I can't get the damn thing to read, it shuts off and turns back on and shoots me a pesky error!!

What's the error?

Next update, because I live nowhere near the city so was directed to the good folks at WTEC where they were able to read the CP with their own computer and cable, so now I'm going to (painfully) wipe my computer and reinstall everything plus order a new cable
