• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello All,

My agency is preparing to roll out APX series portables. I have been doing all of the programming, but I have 2 things at the moment that I am looking for help with:

1. Analog audio seems muffled. This is irrespective of personality and/or other hardware being used (our old Kenwoods and repeater/simplex). To my knowledge, I do not have any audio profiles enabled and HearClear in disabled/doesn't make a difference (we don't use commanding in our system). I've tried numerous parameters in CPS and can't get it to clear up.

2. We use the MPL function heavily. I was told that there's a way to keep the PL tone alias on the screen for more than a few seconds. Is this true and if so, how?

MTIA,
Mark

My APX8000H flashed with FW R21.66.00 having the Radio Profile and Noise Reduction set to defaults has excellent analog audio.

Is it possible that your muffled analog channels are using either 5 kHz / 25 kHz or 4 kHz / 20 kHz wideband and that your associated conventional personalities might be set for 2.5 kHz / 12.5 kHz narrowband?

I will check on that. All of our stuff should be narrow-banded in accordance with the old mandate, but I will confirm that part of my programming.

Thanks!

OK. I didn't know if the audio complaint was on known narrowband services or was perhaps Marine VHF, GMRS, or Amateur frequencies and thought I'd interject the possibility of an incorrect bandwidth setting.

I deployed a few APX-8000H (Firmware R21.03) With the following settings:

Microphone/TX Settings:
Group Setting: Normal for both
Gain/Sensitivity: Custom, Uncheck all AGCs, Set to 0 for all Fixed Gain slots
Digital/Analog Balance: Unchecked
Audio Equalization: Low (-3) Mid (3) High (9)

Speaker/RX Settings:
Audio Equalization: Set to custom for both. Analog High (4) Everything else set to(0)

Let me know how that works out for you. Users are happy both using the built in speaker/mic arrangement as well as accessories stating excellent TX/RX reports on both P25 and Analog 12.5. Ensure that you have this profile enabled under all channels as well, or it will automatically default to "Last Selected"
