• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hey All, I'm new to the radio programming side of my job (duties as assigned). We are currently running APX 8000's radios, and our main frequencies are VHF. We just received access to the regional radio system for mutual aid and interoperability. We were given a software system key and a codeplug to do our programming with, but unit IDs are all saying 1-1. I'm I'm assuming I need to reach back out to my contact and request a list of unit ID's connected to the list of associated radios we provided SN's for? Its for a trunked system, so I'm guessing that a unit ID of 1-1 isn't going to work?

Sounds like you system admin needs to program. Do you have experience programming trunk systems? Just asking about id seems suspicious.

Software key?
Yes, software system key.

In our neck of the woods, there are different IDs depending on the city and/or state or District. We pull them from a pool that has been established by some committee or such. We as techs do not get to decide this. The sys admin will come up with the IDs, then you record what ID you assigned to what serial, then give that info to the sys admin. They will plop that into PM or RM and those radios will be part of the party.

Make sure to keep a keen eye on detail, then, grab a broom and sweep out the bay, 'cause it probably needs it.

Oy vey....nothing against you but if you are asking the above questions you should NOT be messing with trunked radio programming. There are a thousand little fields in CPS that have to be accurate for the radios to function properly on a trunked radio system. One of the most basic is the radio id.
Please consider Motorola programming training before messing with any radio settings that could cause system/subscriber issues.
Again, no offense intended but programming TRS requires extensive radio/system understanding that once gets through training.

I 100% agree, but they did state a template/CP was provided. I have APX Technical Cert, meaning all of the classes. IDs are mentioned, but until you talk to the admins and experienced techs, they are just numbers that cant be duplicated.

If all they have to do is assign IDs, this is a perfect stepping stone into our world. I have been given this task before, without APX school. If they stick to detailed spreadsheet discipline, everything will be OK.

I find it difficult to believe the IDs were not provided.

Most systems restrict programming of trunking subscribers to small numbers of people, and only vetted ones, for a reason. My agency it's less than 10 outside our shop. All of them signed agreements not to share info, let alone post on a hobbyist forum asking for advice on basic stuff. Just saying...something seems odd.
