OK, I have searched (briefly) and could not find the answer to this so I'm asking here. I apologize if it is already answered somewhere or if I should've added this question to an existing thread instead of starting a new one.

The question is...in programming my BCD996XT using ARC XT I see a column on a conventional channel that says "Tone L/Out". Am I correct in assuming that if this is set to "On" then it will only stop when that particular frequency and tone combination is received? Or does it mean something else? It is right next to the PL/DPL column which is why I think this is what it is for. Or is it for fire tone out alert or something else?

Thanks in advance!

Just the opposite. All transmission that do NOT have that tone will be received, regardless of what tone they are. However, when a transmission is received with that tone, you will not hear it(it is locked out). This is handy when the agency you want to hear does not use a tone, and there is another agency that does. Locking out the tone is the only way to avoid hearing the other agency. The normal mode is OFF. If you add a tone in the OFF mode, then all agencies that do not use that tone will be locked out, and you will only hear the one with the tone you programmed (assuming you know the correct tome)

Thank you! As you said and I assumed, I was thinking of it in the opposite manner. I appreciate the input - I was not having any luck searching for it.

Have a great weekend.
