Ok address says Wheat Ridge but it was all Arvada FD all evening filling out the 2nd alarm etc, I never heard mention of even a single WFD unit on scene? Is this an area that AFD has taken over?

All ops were on 453.550.

Fire Hits Wheat Ridge Apartment
No Injuries, But 8 Families Displaced
POSTED: 6:11 am MDT April 19, 2005
WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. -- An overnight fire in Wheat Ridge forced a number of people out of their homes and authorities were investigating what caused the blaze.

Firefighters battle a blaze at 44th & Kipling in Wheat Ridge.

The fire broke out around 11 p.m. at the Newgate Apartments on West 44th Avenue near Kipling Street.

It spread through several units into a common attic, fire officials said.
Fortunately, everyone in the 36-unit apartment building managed to get out safely.
"A gas propane cooker went off. It blew up twice and the whole thing went up in flames," said Donald Ortiz, a witness.
Three apartments were heavily damaged and eight families were displaced.
The Mile High Chapter of the American Red Cross was helping three of the families. The other families stayed with friends or relatives.

Arvada has always covered the potion of Wheat Ridge that is north of Clear Creek.

Thanks Mike, really confusing to me it's especially funny because when I drove by the complex today it specifically is called "at Wheat Ridge" in the apartments name.

Wheat Ridge FD web site map or Arvada FD web site map neither really that accurate.

Do AFD and WRFD not get along? Surprised the 2nd alarm did not at least bring one engine from WRFD they have a station pretty close.

On that map, Arvada's district is outlined in the thick black line. As shown, there is a good chunk of Wheat Ridge (pinkish) which is within the thick black line (Arvada's district). It used to confuse me too, but you have to remember Lakewood and Wheat Ridge were latecomers incorporating, both in the late 60's I believe, so the fire districts preceed the cities. That's why Wheat Ridge FPD doesn't follow city limits, and also why the old Lakewood FPD only covered the northern half of the city, while Bancroft FPD covered the southern half.

AFPD as you now is a protection district and is not a city dept thus they do cover quite a bit of land that is out of the city of Arvada and includes some of jeffco county and wheat ridge. Arvada has always taken the north side of clear creek and wheat ridge has always had the south side of the creek. The boundries were drawn long ago, and if you look at the boundry closesly you can see that arvada has much better access to almost all area north of the creek and wheat ridge doesn't have that great of access at all to those areas north. I can't really answer whether arvada and wheat ridge get along but i do know that i have never seen them train together or ever share radio portables for interopability in case of a mutal aid call....
