02/05 ~ Around 13:00 Arvada Firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire at West 69th Place and Oberon Road. Moments after the tone units reported smoke in the air. Upon arrival at 10105 West 69th Place, heavy fire from the alpha side was encountered. Battalion 51 assumed command and declared an offensive strategy. Engine 56 established a water supply, Engines 56 & 55 advanced two lines including a Blitzfire. Tower 56 conducted a 360 and was tasked with searches and utilities. The main body of fire closest to an exposure was quickly knocked down with a hand-line but deteriorating structural conditions prompted the change to a defensive strategy. Companies were pulled back and the master stream from Engine 56 was used. After several minutes of successful master stream application crews moved in with a 2 1/2 to finish the attack. Firefighters worked in -12 wind chill and became covered in ice. Extensive overhaul operations were needed, no injuries were reported and investigators were called to the scene.
