I tend to keep my scanners programmed fairly consistently. Though there are differences between my digital and analog scanners.
I normally listen to two with the occasional third scanner for a specific incident. All the scanners have the closest analog systems to where I live or frequently drive through in them. The digital scanner has the home area digital trunked system and those other local digital systems.
My 396 (and this is the main reason I prefer the 396 over the 500)* is then broken down into sub groups. I can (with a couple of quick key [pun intended] strokes) be monitoring or holding a specific incident (police chase or major working fire/accident).
*This is not a place to rate the merits or demerits of the 500 versus the 396. For the number of systems I have in my area and the way I like to scan, the 396 is more versatile. That is MY OPINION.
