• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anyone have any experience or information on running Motorola's "virtual core" in order to operate SmartConnect independently from a larger ASTRO P25 system/core? We span across dozens of different P25 systems, some are ASTRO P25, some are Harris VIDA, some are Kenwood ATLAS, etc... I've heard that Motorola has a "virtual core" system that would essentially allow you to spin up your own SmartConnect deployment independent of an actual system so that if the radios are out of range between systems they'll failover to SmartConnect regardless of where.

Can't find any info on this and neither can our vendor. Their recommendation was approach one of the existing ASTRO system owners we work with to see if they'd host our SmartConnect.. Even for areas outside of their jurisdiction or state. I suspect that won't be favorable.

This seems to be the answer from sales: if you want SC and don't own a core, partner with someone who hosts a core and buy the licenses and associated bandwidth needed to host it. I've heard Astro Cloud is coming, but haven't seen any further on release date.

Is he an actualy MSI sales guy or a vendor sales guy ? Anyway to my knowledge it takes a manual change to a SC talkgroup. I see no way a radio would roam to it unless that particular system wa setup for SC already. YMMV

If you're a large enough client, Motorola *MAY* give you access to a virtual talkgroup through SmartConnect on the Motorola Test system. I've heard of it happening once but that was just for a demo for an agency that was in the process of building out their own core.
