• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Guys, to run old CPS (XP era) on Windows 7 -- especially 64-bit, you need to download and install Windows Virtual PC, and Windows XP Mode. These downloads are free from Microsoft, provided you have a genuine copy of Windows 7 installed.

Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7

I'm using this setup in a Windows 7 64-bit native environment, with a ioGear USB-Serial adapter, to program MTS2000s, MCS2000s, ASTRO Saber/XTS3000 and ASTRO Spectras -- with the SRIB. No problems/bricks ever encountered.

I have a windows 8 laptop, got xp virtual machine running. I try to read my astro saber and the radio starts to read, radio beeps, and "1 CSQ" displays on the screen, then the CPS displays that communication has failed. Any ideas what might be the problem? Cables and rib work fine when I last used them on a xp laptop, I just no longer have access to that computer. Thanks in advance.

Is it a fresh install of Windows 7 or is it a copy that has been upgraded from a previous version. Sometimes programs will not be able to run on a copy of Windows that has been upgraded.

I forget which, but one version of CPS even says that it will not run on a copy of Windows that has been upgraded from a previous generation, only a fresh full install.

EDIT: This is what i was thinking of, I found this in the MTS/MCS CPS Readme, the same is also in the Astro Saber,Spectra, and XTS3000 CPS:
System Requirements:
--------------------
Operating Systems: Windows NT 4.0 (SP 6a or higher),
Windows 2000
Windows XP Home Edition (See Note)
Windows XP Professional (See Note)
Vista (32-bit) Home Premium (SP 1 or higher)
Vista (32-bit) Business (SP 1 or higher)
Note: XP upgrade or Vista upgrade from other operating
systems is not supported if the CPS was previously
installed on the old operating system.
Windows ME and Windows 98 are no longer supported.
You may choose to proceed with the installation, but
some features might not be functioning properly.
Upgrading the operating system is highly recommended.
I didnt see it mentioned in the Waris CPS.

Also what Mars said is good advice too
