• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Not without the correct model number change between the two series.

All thats required is to change the TIB and control head, then in CPS go to tools then Change Control Head. It will update the codeplug to the desired head. Write to radio. I have found it might be eaiser to do this with the OLD control head attached, then change the hardware.

Ok so a little update I placed a new TIB MHLN6883E but to my surprise the TIB on the brick was also a MHLN6883E so either way when I pull the CPS and go to change the head its shown as a W3 and when I select W9 its prompting me that the hardware doesn't support a W9. So do I just push it through and program it or do I need to hook up a W3 head? I am not understanding why the radio thinks a W3 was connected when the TIB was not even W3 capable? Sorry if this is a laborious conversation but to me this is how we learn so I am gonna keep at it until I make it work

So I unhooked from the brick and still have the CP pulled up and advanced it by saying YES to change it from W3 to W9 and a window that says: Warning! changing the CH type might reset certain button values and truncate fields that do not fit the new display size. It is recommended that you save the CP(already did when I first received the brick) before proceeding.
I am gonna assume my vendor accidently set it to a W3 head and wrote the radio? It was originally set for a W4 head which explains why it has a existing MHLN6883E TIB because its all original equipment
