• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I would like advice on upgrading the AT-D868UV antenna for longer distance reception.
I also need to be able to carry it around in brush without snagging it, but also good for in town use.
I've looked at these 3 antennas on bridgecom but have no clue which is the better one.

Nagoya NA-320A is long at 17.7"
NA-771 15.6"
NA-701 8.0"

Thank you

There's no "better." What's better for me might not be better for you depending on the use. The long antenna is very likely to perform better than all of them. At the same time, it is going to be snagging around in brush, be all up in your armpit, etc. Same goes for the 15.6". The 868 is well-known for its absolutely crappy antenna. Any other antenna you put on that radio (including an Anytone 878 antenna) is going to outperform what you have.

Everything is a trade off for sure. I'm kicking around the 8" antenna. It has good reviews, plus it wouldnt be in my way as much.
Thank you for your input

You're welcome! I don't own the 701 personally, but I do have a couple 771s. When using one on my Anytone 878, I don't notice a huge difference on UHF, but there is most definitely a very big difference on VHF. I think you'll see significant improvement with the 701 over the stock antenna.

An 8" third-party antenna is likely not much better than the OEM antenna that comes with the Anytone. I'm not sure about the 868, however, but I know the antenna on the 878 is just fine.

As I mentioned, the stock antenna on the 868 is notoriously horrendous. They fixed that with the 878.

I switched my stock 878 antenna out with a Motorola UHF antenna about 6 inch off an XTS5000 and it works great even on VHF and DMR
