I recently bought the Radio Shack Pro-106. I live both in Doylestown, PA and Atlantic City, NJ. I bought this scanner in Doylestown and the Radio Shack in Doylestown downloaded the program for scanning Bucks and Montgomery Counites. So works fine there.

I am now here in AC for a few summer months. Need help to get the Atlantic City system codes programmed.

My request..........I need training. I will get/buy software or cables. But I still will need training. I would like to learn how to program talking groups manually (scanner key entry) and through software (after I get/buy it as needed).

Anyone out there close by to or in Atlantic City willing to meet and share Pro-106 usage information? I will buy the coffee/beer/snacks!

If there are any takers, you can email at
meichhorn@yahoo.com.

Thanks,
Mark

When you are ready to pick up the programming cable and software, it is allot easier to program the newer scanners that way, you can try the software listed below (30 day free trial). I also posted a link to a Guide to assist with importing data from RR into the software for uploading to your scanner:

Win500: PSR-500, PSR-600, PRO-106, PRO-197 Scanner Software for Data Management, Monitoring, and Control

I would not let Radio Shack employees program any scanner purchased from them. Most don't really understand scanners and the software they use is not as good as Win500.

If Radio Shack didn't wipe out the programmed data in the PRO-106 Atlantic City information is contained in V Folder 17. Bucks and Montgomery Counties radio systems are contained in V Folder 15. Never used anyone of these systems, so wouldn't know how well they work. These new scanners are programmed for most of the USA right out of the box, so many casual users most likely can get by with the preprogrammed data. Users may have to make a few changes if something has been updated, since the scanner was made and programmed.

Steve,

Thanks. I will down-load the s/w this weekend and get a cable from Radio Shack this weekend as well.

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention if you want to use the Import Feature in Win500 you have to be a Premium Subscriber here on RR. To me and allot of other users that have picked up one of the newer scanners, it's well worth it!

Hello Hill & Highpockets,

Thanks again for the input. I am going to get the Win500, cable and I guess now the RR premium version today.

Hill, note that I have all the V-Folders intact. I uploaded the one for S. Jersey and it's a no go. I notice on RR the statement that "One or more sites for this trunking system have gone through the 800 MHz rebanding process. Your scanner may be incompatible, require a firmware update or require special programming to track these sites. Please visit the RR Wiki Rebanding page for additional information".

Not sure what affect this has.

Anyway, once I get all this extra stuff, hope I can get this to work!.

V-folder 17 needs 860.7625 added for Atlantic City TSYS. However, none of the County EDACS will work due to rebanding. You'll be much better with Steve's suggestion.

Frank & All,

Downloaded the trial WIN500 and bought the RR Premium. Going to RS to get the cable.

I "assume" then I download my current scanner setting to WIN500. Then I can edit as needed with RR. I also assume I will need to download a cable driver to my PC.

You can do that, or import what systems or conv frequencies right from the database into win500 for uploading to your scanner. The Guide I linked in one of the above posts explains how to do that.

A CD with the cable should have the drivers. Insert CD prior to insertion of cable in USB. Then if needed direct the wizard to CD then to folder of your operating system.

If no CD with cable get drivers from GRE America, Inc. - Powered By Kayako SupportSuite
or
Virtual COM Port Drivers

Go the cable. Loaded the CD. I "think" the driver installed.

Questions:
1. Do I use the 3 inch adaptor? Instructions seem to indicate "yes".
2. Tried to down-load a RR file but seems scanner is not communicating with PC.
3. Should scanner be turned on and in scan mode to down-load files?

If I remember correctly you do not use the 3" adapter, and you plug the cable in the PC/IF connection on the scanner.

When you installed the driver, the cable should not be connected to the computer, after you install the driver, you can plug the cable in, and look in device manager to see if the cable shows and what com port it is on.

Steve,

I installed the driver from the FTD site. Worked. I do not have the 3" adaptor connected and I am able to communicate to the PC and the scanner.

First, I uploaded what was on the scanner to the WIN500 file. That worked. Then I tried to down load a RR file to the scanner and that seemed to work.

I am still trying to figure our the difference between a TSYS and a TGRP.

I return to Atlantic City tomorrow. The whole point of this was to get the scanner to work in Atlantic City (which it was not). The pre-loaded stuff worked for my home area but not in AC. So I will be pleased if I can get this going at the shore home.

The TSYS is the system and the TGRP are the Groups (Users) that use the system. When you Import a TSYS (System) make sure you check (pick) a site and the TG's you want to listen to.

Steve,

Thanks. I think I did. I will have to wait till tomorrow/Monday and see if what I downloaded works. Stay tuned to this post. I will let you know how I make out and will probably have more questions. This is an expensive hobby. With Pro-106 and "stuff" it's pushing north of $500 so far. Hope I am done $ wise.

Steve and All,

Back in Atlantic City. Trying to get scanner to pick up anything. So far no luck. I see the AC TSYS in ID 00001scan list 2 (on Win500 s/w). Can't get to it.

Ok. I am in manual and can get the PD dispatch. When I hit scan it stops.

I manual the first line on the scanner is
Line 1: 02-0008 TGRP p1D
Line 2: ID: 48
Line 3: PD 1 Disp Sys
Line 4: TSYS

Can't figure out where in the V-Scan list this TSYS is to turn in on for scanning!!!
