To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

First off …. is it possible?
What Connector is used
Will it Improve Reception on The G5’s 2nd Band / 400 -512

My house has outside Stucco, to support the stucco, Metal Lath is used, so basically my Shack Room is Surrounded by Metal.
Portable Stock Antenna don’t like This, ( any scanner) I can Take The G5 on my Front Porch & Reception is improved 70% especially The 400 Band.

I Have The Amplified Charger, it Improves The 800 Band, but Not The 400 band. I’m using a 400 Omni Directional Antenna.

I have seven Gx series pagers, two of which are connected to independent yagi antennas on a 25' mast. This has proven to work really well to receive sites in counties 30-40 miles away using regular RG6 cable.

I believe that the 2nd band uses only the internal antenna... This is why I have a G3 for my UHF primary, and a G5 for my 7/800MHz primary systems. Of course, getting your G5 outside and getting to a higher elevation will improve even the internal antenna reception.

Thanks All
Yes…. I Have 3 outside Antennas 400 Omni / 800 Yagi / 150 Omni

The Amplified Charger Antenna Works Fantastic on The 800 MHz part, having issues on The 400 MHz band….So Hooking an Outside Antenna Directly to The G5 would not Be any Better. (What Connector) SMA female ?

I have The Outside 400 MHz Omni Antenna on my SDS 100 Receiving a 400 MHz P25 System 25 Miles, comes in good.

The Same Antenna plugged in The Amplified Charger / same System, (Out of Range)
On The G5.
I Take The G5 With Stock Antenna on my Front Porch Same System
Comes in Crystal Clear. Maybe Hooking Directly To The G5 would any Better.

I believe people have damaged their antenna connections when putting Motorola antennas on their Unications and it screwed in too deep causing a loss of antenna connection when they then put the stock Unication antenna back on because they pushed the inside connector in too much.

You will want to be careful when using one of these adapters so that you don't screw it on too deep. I stop as soon as I get resistance.

Thanks jtwalker ….. I’ve got a few 400 MHz conventional frequencies that gets so so
Reception……. when I drop the G5 in The Amplified Charger with The 400 Omni Attached ….. I get 2 more Reception bars so I see some improvements
nothing like The 800 band.
Any issues keeping the G5 in The Charger for long periods of time

Keeping the G5 in The Charger for long periods of time is probably not good on the battery?
Mine stays in charger when it isn’t out of the house with me. Battery is coming up on 2 years old.

Try unplugging the power from the amplified charger. Sometimes the wall wart itself can interfere with things, especially if the signal is weak.

I'm actually gonna try a different way to provide power to it. I think I'm having issues here due to RF noise. The weather channels show signal even there's nothing there to receive.
