How does the 2096 do on digital audio (I'm not necessarily refering to the AGC leveling but the ability to understand what is being said)? I've never been happy with the 296D's ability to decode and provide consitently intelligable audio. I was wondering if the GRE products did a better job.

Almost all the transmissions are intelligible. As long as the signal isn't breaking up and the person transmitting isn't standing next to other units (you get an echo when you do this on a digital system) then everything is loud and clear.

The GREs are MUCH better than the Uniden models. I've found that turning the ACG on results in 'underwater' sounds, but without it on, it sounds almost as good as a Motorola XTS. (usually AS good)

But that is on the SYSTEM. All the radios would hear that, so it's not a GRE/Uniden issue.
