Austin 9600 baud works finally, after 296 firmware upgrade..

just a quick note to say that i tested the 3.25 firmware update to the Uniden 296 and the latest i96 update on Austin, Texas and it FINALLY WORKS!

it was suhweeeeeeeet to finally be able to listen to Austin's simulcast towers without the dreaded "LNK" and no voice!

i ran through 2 battery packs on the 296 in about 8 hours just monitoring everything while i ran errands up there - EVERYONE is on that system...

*sigh*

then i had to come back to ProVoice City...grrr....

How does one determine what firmware version they have on their 296? Does the upgrade require sending the unit in to the factory?

it can be done off the Uniden website.

use the "Search" feature of the radioreference Forums to look for "uniden firmware" and you will find a direct link to the download.

the downloaded software will tell you what you have.

When you turn the radio on, press the number 3 and the CPU and DSP info will be shown.
