Keep in mind also that there is a specific HIPAA exemption for emergency communications. Which is why ambulance to hospital communications are not encrypted just about everywhere. Also, the rise of various apps such as Twiage, Pulsara, the ESA Alerting app bypass traditional hospital communications systems.

I was starting to reply the same thing then saw yours. I've been in EMS for 21 years, never gave any, never been asked to give, nor will I ever give that information out. It's comments like that the will debunk their whole encryption argument for me.

MedStar in Fort Worth, use to be busy with patient reports on the NTIRN system, now they use one of those digital dashboard systems and the talkgroups are not completely quiet, but just about.

ATCEMS uses Talk Groups on the GATRRS system as of now, as do the EMS systems in Williamson County. It's interesting that while while Williamson County EMS encrypts their dispatch traffic, hospital notification traffic is in the clear.

im not saying i hear/heard SSN info all the time or every day.
but i have heard it TWICE.
and i was absolutely shocked that i did. NO BS.
Name, DL, SSN. i was like WTF.
anybody listening could have grabbed that info and stolen it.
i dont remember what EMS/EMT service sent it, Starflight? idk. it was a few yrs ago.
but they sent it to KYLE SETON.
along with all the vitals and time/distance out.

but yes, it happened.

ive even heard cops make jokes about shooting out car tires. and another said shut up - you wont do it.
do i think he was serious - no.
should he of said it? HELL NO.

so should this be encrypted ??

its amazing the stuff you can hear when there is no dispatch when you just sit and listen to a channel

APD disappeared sometime after 10:00 this morning. That seems to include TGs I have listed as being for DPS.

The talkgroups above are currently linked to encrypted talkgroups carrying the same voice traffic. Once all the radios are re-programmed, the link will be severed, leaving only the encrypted talk groups in force. The replacement talkgroups are already listed in the RR DB. Of course, you won't hear anything.

I'm trying to make sure I understand this correctly. Are you saying that absolutely nothing will be heard on the old talk groups, and garbled talk will be heard on the new talk groups?

As of 14:05 I'm still hearing fire and EMS in the clear on old talk groups, and garbled talk on
108243aDAPD Violent CrimViolent Crime Task Force
But all quiet on other old talk groups. I probably don't understand how the system works, but I expected to hear garbled talk on all the "old" talk groups.

The linked TGs were, to the best of my knowledge, only APD. I'm still hearing TCSO, and other city police departments as well as AFD and ATCEMS. I think I asked about Over The Air Rekeying (OTAR) and if it was possible the other agencies could be programmed without every radio needing to be touched by the radio shop.

I only hear one Constable TG (2551), but it's been that way since I moved here last year. I don't know if they just don't use them much or if I have something programmed incorrectly.

I just heard both TCSO Adam and Baker, as well as the Constables.

I suspect all 5 constable staffs use the same TG.

If the big media there gets radios for their news desk, don’t expect them to care about the general public being locked out. They would salivate at the thought of getting to charge you or get your clicks to know what is going on in your city.
