BTW, there is a survey available on line regarding the next APD chief. Since they all about transparency, people can fill out the survey and mention that encrypting dispatch radio traffic is the opposite there off.

"This survey is currently closed. Please contact the author of this survey for further assistance."

I thought Austin PD was going encrypted and for several months after they turned it on I could no longer pick up any transmissions from APD. I stopped listening for a long time then just for the heck of it I turned on my scanner and immediately started picking up transmissions Austin PD Scanner.jpgfrom APD again.

I think you'll find that a few of the TGs are still open, but all of the district channels are still encrypted. I've heard traffic on the Interop TGs as well, which makes sense. Also, it appears that the APD traffic units on I-35 are still open, but that's likely so that DPS and TCSO units operating there can hear traffic.

Looks like you haven't updated your database in a while :) Those are Regional Law channels, and are usually unencrypted to allow multi-agencies to talk to each other. I mostly hear DPS on there and sometimes APD.

Do you mean the ones I have tagged as "LAW" and "Regional Interop?" I frequently update my scanners, but don't always look at those. Post encryption I should probably update that part of the programming.

I was referring to user "igetwams" screenshot showing TGID 3417 under APD and Simulcast 1.

Okay. Once we moved down here I found that some parts of my programming were out of date. Generally we were down here once a year or so and while I had first a 436HP then a SDS100 I found that some of the stuff that I carried over was not still used for the same activities and some of the TG Alpha Tags had been changed.

I added all of the Interop TGs where before I had only the first five. I've made some other minor changes as well.

Finally picked up a SDS100 with a Remtronix antenna, now I'm able to monitor from Georgetown. I can pick up pretty much everything now without any distortion unlike my Pro966. I have APD programed, all dispatch and all other channels but I don't hear anything on them. I know dispatch went encrypted but I still don't hear any other talk groups. Are all talkgroups on APD encrypted now? I am able to hear TCSO and other locations just fine..

From my listening the TG used by the highway units is still in the clear. Also the TGs used by DPS in Austin are in the clear. AISD is in the clear.

The Regional Interop TGs are in the clear and one is being used today by various LE agencies to coordinate traffic for the Presidents visit to the LBJ library.

Are all Public safety agencies encrypted including ATCEMS and AFD? Or is AFD the only agency encrypted?

Are you able to hear any of these, excluding the dispatch TGs:

AFD and ATCEMS are clear, at least for now. It appears that the ESDs and surrounding areas with mutual aid agreements complained. At least that is what I was told, but have no way to verify.

Just AISD PD and parks.
Ok, so I guess the other groups are encrypted or something as well. I'll monitor tomorrow during daylight times to see if I can pick up ASID PD and parks as well. Thanks for checking.

It seems that ATCEMS initial dispatch is via page of some type. Units then respond on a TG or are assigned a Med or event AFD Tac channel to use for the call. The more I listen, the more I'm starting to figure out.

EMT to Hospital TGs are clear.

Page is a broad term. Is it possible that they have the call sent to the MDT and have to verbally acknowledge the call? That would clear up so much radio time that it would make sense (sarcasm that only you would understand.) Or possibly an app? Pages seem so 1980s.
