I'm not hearing much of anything anymore on the scanner. Austin Police are silent now but I had been hearing DPS and Travis County fairly regularly. They seem pretty quiet now as well. So, what are the rest of you listening to now that these folks are so quiet?

I'm hearing TCSO Adam and Baker this morning. Plus the ISD police agencies I have programmed. I heard Lakeway PD yesterday. Pflugerville PD and FD are active as well.

I also hear Bastrop County agencies quite well.

I too am curious about status of the GATRRS specific to Austin PD. At present, I am seeing "DE" & "D" listed for APD dispatch talk groups; however, widespread encrypted talk groups are not listed.

The last time I was in Travis County was about one year ago. I never heard a peep out of APD.

What is the status of Austin encrypting all traffic? How long will the "D" APD dispatch talk groups be available?

When I seed the RRDB for APD, there are very few "E" talk groups.

All APD police district Talk Groups are encrypted and have been since the spring. The non encrypted Talk Groups are dead.
TCSO East and West TGs are still active. DPS is unencrypted and very active of both Travis and Williamson Counties.

The way APD did it was to program new TGs for the encrypted traffic. If you look at the RRDB, you'll see both listed, but only the ones marked "DE" are active. None of the other LE agencies in Travis are currently encrypted.

The "Regional Interop" Talk Groups are sporadically active, but it's mostly surveillance activity which I presume to be interagency task forces doing surveillance and maybe warrant apprehensions.

The regionals only get used if you have multiple agencies involved that don't have common programming. So if you had an incident on the Burnet/Wilco line they would technically patch the primary talkgroups of each agency into a regional talkgroup which will supergroup the patched talkgroups, a form of dynamic regrouping.

They used to have a who list of wide area event groups that they used for things like SXSW, ACL, UT Football, etc but those have also been pushed over to encrypted groups (with the interop plan supporting regional variants of encrypted groups as well).

The traffic I heard seems to have been stake out related, so I'd guess those are multi agency task forces.

For the US Grand Prix in October there were several Interop TGs used for security and EMS stand bys.

There was also a two weekend concert event in South Austin shortly after that. They also used the Interop TGs.

I haven't heard what you're referring to as of yet, but expect that I will.

I was in Austin the first week of December and took my pro-668 did not hear anything.....
Not surprising. Depending where you were, you would need a scanner designed for simulcast (SDS, etc.). Even several miles south of the Travis County Line, I need a SDS to pick up AFD and the Travis County ESDs.

I live more or less on the Williamson/Travis line near Pflugerville and have round that I get acceptable results on my 325P2 using the P25 Threshold function. Level 8 usually works best, sometimes I change it to Level 7. Automatic doesn't work well at all.

Of course that will vary by location. Using a Remtronix 800B I find that moving the radio as little as 5 inches can change reception significantly.

I'll be back in Austin next week. First time since APD went E. I'm curious about the two DPS channels ATC 1 and 2. The online feed only seems to be picking up the dispatcher only. It used to have both sides on ATC 1. Are the troopers starting to encrypt? Or is it just a feed issue.

It's just a feed issue. Sometimes you hear the units, sometimes you don't, and sometimes the feeds don't work for a long period of time, then they'll just start magically working again. It's just a hit and miss thing

I hear ATC 1 all the time, but don't think I've heard ATC 2 yet.
I also hear 3525 which I have tagged as APD Traffic. I don't know if that's who is actually using it though.
I have 4424 programmed in my Williamson County system, but don't recall hearing anything on that. I do hear ATC 1 on that system.

I have UT PD and it's active, but not too exciting.
I have AISD PD.
I'll have to look at some of the other non municipal LE agencies.

3525 is definitely DPS Austin, Region 6 patrol and Region 7 Capitol Police. 3522 is basically the same thing, sometimes they even both transmit the same things at the same time, sometimes they don't. As far as I know all of APD is now encrypted. UT PD has some interesting things going on sometimes if you have the patience to listen-I leave it on along with other feeds. 3526 is Capitol security guards and a few Region 7 DPS troopers that work inside the Capitol building, but it's not too active. AISD can be interesting if it's working, which it isn't half the time. 2551 is Travis County Constables-they talk quite a bit but their dispatcher goes 10-42 every day at 9 pm ;)

Thanks. I'll update my labeling. I've discovered that some of the information in the RRDB is not quite accurate. I've submitted a couple of updates, but prefer to spend more time to be sure that I have it right.

It took me about a year to understand Williamson County Fire and EMS and eventually figure out the remaining mysteries.

FYI ATC 2 (3525) just had an announcement of an active shooter. Supposed to be operating on ATC 1 (3522) Regional Interop 1 (3416).
