Was in south/west Austin Slaughter Ln and Brodie Ln for 3 days visiting family........
I used to live around that area and would be able to pick up simulcast 1 back when they still had that. Not sure how bad it's gotten with the simulcast 7. I moved up to Georgetown and couldn't pick up anything since they remove sim1/2. I have a SDS100 now and it picks up everything without distortion.

Currently on DPS 3522, I hear units and dispatch. And just heard a trooper chasing a suspect on foot and the suspect got hit by a car on 71, crazy.

I heard parts of that, but couldn't decipher some parts.

I'm down in Hutto and get both Williamson and Travis very well on my 325P2, although there is sometimes some distortion. I get those two and Bastrop on my SDS100 without any distortion.

Apparently the suspect was ok and the car that hit him drove off, lol. What TG is Williamson dps? I don't know if I've ever heard them, but I just keep my sds100 locked in the Austin site.

I live in the Spicewood portion of Travis County. Burnet and Blanco have no encryption.

Austin Fire should be mostly in the clear as well.

Why is AFD clear anyway? News back in April said that both PD and FD were supposed to go dark.

When the story came out AFD said they had no plans to encrypt. All of the ESDs would also have to encryt and that is unlikely.

It was going to be everything that was going to be encrypted fire ems and police but they changed it to only APD because they only wanted encrypted from what people told me who works on the radios at gatrrs

4424, but I don't recall ever hearing traffic on it. I do hear the DPS Travis TG 3522 on the Wilco trunk.

Ok, I had 4424 programmed and would lock on to the WILCO tower but never heard anything from Williamson DPS that I could tell, no dispatch for any WILCO areas. I did pick up Austin DPS on both WILCO tower and Austin. Not sure how Williamson DPS area is being dispatched then..

That's been my observation as well. I'm trying to listen to 3522 a bit more closely to try and pinpoint locations. Maybe they are combined.

I think Williamson County troopers are dispatched by Austin DPS. A lot of times the troopers will also work a lot on the SO channel of the county they're in.

I wonder if DPS units have the encrypted Talk Groups for WCSO programmed into their radios. For that matter, I wonder who programs the radios, if it's DPS or whoever does the radio work for the county?

I think that DPS is able to talk on all local channels that are encrypted. I'm certain that DPS and UTPD are able to talk to and monitor Austin PD on their encrypted channels because I hear them talking about radio traffic that's going on on APD and switching to their channels, and I'm pretty sure they can talk on other local encrypted channels. I have no clue as to who programs those radios-these new fangled systems are a complete mystery to me!

Actually, I'm stating this as a GATRRS sub-system manager. Keep in mind, DPS radios don't just have GATRRS in their radios.
Yeah I’m well away of that but for like Dallas area dps has there radios channels programmed from the person who works on the radios in the Dallas area so they can pick up the traffic

DPS has their own radio techs with system keys for the major systems. Just like TxDOT has their own radio techs as well. Just like TxPWD has their own radio techs.
