What month is it?
As previously posted - auto locate is completely worthless.

Forget about it - (best), get the above GPS, (2nd best) manually enter your lat/long, or use zip code.

This works on the SDS100 anywhere. The GPS puck plugs into the cable listed and then the cable plugs I to any USB charger/computer. It will charge the SDS, allow programming and gives GPS function. Best to have it near a window.

If you are using favorites you have to make sure "Location Detect" is enabled for each system. If you are only using the database it doesn't matter.

You need to make sure the GPS baud rate is set to 4800 in the scanner.

The 842 s is a good antenna, (the broomstick).

As I mentioned in post number 2 and then others repeated, enter your ZIP code and it will set your longitude and latitude.

Weird, it's always worked when I tried it, guess results must vary according to your location.

My default procedure is to enter my geographical coordinates.

Autolocate is basically a last ditch effort to obtain your location based on what the scanner receives.

Why do you not want to use your zip code?

It's very unreliable. It attempts to listen to systems around you and match them up with information it has in the database to create commonalities to determine a location. It doesn't do a very good job at all with that process. You must just be lucky enough to have exactly what it wants to see.

I actually live close enough to a site that it picks up my location (without using my gps) pretty well. It just pulls in more that I really want or need to hear sometimes.

Plus, it's a waste of time. It's quicker to enter the zip code then to let that feature sit there and compare. I tried it one time and it took 7 minutes to tell me I was in Miami Florida.

What is your range set for? When I am only looking for very close to me, I set it to 0.5 miles.

It was set for 0.5 miles as well. I just had too many services turned on at the time. I know, I know. Give me a little break. I'm just getting use to these things.:D:D:D

Plus it was trying to add the Lamar County site that is close by but not close enough the get a descent signal. I have to use West Hattiesburg to get anything descent.

I might be wrong but I don't see anything in the area (other than schools, utilities, universities, etc.) that is on DMR or NXDN. Someone with more knowledge of your area might chime.

ProVoice is a digital function on EDACS systems. It is no longer supported by the manufacturer, and agencies, as well as companies, using it are mostly migrating to other system types, such as P25 or DMR. You have no EDACS systems in your state. Closest EDACS/ProVoice system to you is the bay authority in the Boston area. Well out of range. That upgrade would be a waste of money.

There are no DMR public safety users in your county, Providence. The only DMR Trunked public safety system I see in your state is New Shoreham, on Block Island. Some of the colleges & hospital systems in your county do show to be using DMR, and there are some business trunked systems using DMR, and one listed NXDN system. There may well be other business users of DMR, that no one has submitted to the database, but unless you want the ability to listen to some of them at some point, you would not need the DMR upgrade. At some future date, railroads will be switching to NXDN, but I would not spend the money on that one either, unless & until railroads make the switch, and you want the ability to monitor them.

Definitely does. Had mine 5 years.

I've had mine about 5 days. I'll second this, I can't believe how well this works. As a test I entered an Atlanta ZIP code, let it scan, and then plugged in the GPS. In about a second it recognized I was in Austin and reprogrammed. Yesterday I drove to Houston and back and heard local traffic the whole way.
