I live in Avon in Hendricks county and am using a PRO-2052. I have programmed my 2052 with the system frequencies listed for the MECA1 system as I understand the Avon PD is on that system. For whatever reason I cant pick up much of anything but static. Anyone have ideas? Am I just in a poor location and not getting reception? I can occasionally hear some static conversations but nothing clear. I recently moved here from outside of Denver and had no problems receiving the Denver trunked system there.

Any advice?

The RR DB lists 4 possible control channels for the MECA 1 system? 860.2626, 860.7625, 860.9375, 860.9875). I have tried all 4 with no change.

Ive attached my scancontol config file.

ANy help is greatly appreciated!

I also live in Avon but I haven't tried my scanner since they switched to MECA. However, I never had any problems picking up IPD/Marion County traffic. I looked at your config file and I only see 23 channels entered. I believe the system has 27 channels. I'd make sure all 27 are entered in your bank and see if that helps.

Hope this helps.

P.S. I'm around Dan Jones Rd./100 N and the reception has always been good here with the stock antenna.

I'm am not familiar with that program, however, looking at the file I see one thing that could stand out:

Code:
ANK	NUM	NAME	TYPE
BANK	1	MECA1	CONV

See the CONV- If that stands for conventional, You might need to set the bank to MOT..I would check that first. Lemme know what you find.

Thanks for the replies. I will see if updating the list to all 27 ch will help. I must have overlooked a couple. I thought I had the system set as a Mot II system (not sure why it doesnt show in the scanner software list Ill have to double check it). Im West of 267 around Hwy 36. I havent been able to pick up Any IPD/AVON/Plainfield MECA traffic without significant static.

What is the proper contol channel for the MECA system?

Site Description Freqs
001 Primary 855.4875 856.2125 856.7625 856.9375 857.2125 857.2625 857.7625 857.9375 858.2125
858.2625 858.7625 858.9375 859.2625 859.7625 859.9375 860.2625* 860.7625* 860.9375*
860.9875* 866.1000 866.1250 866.5375 866.8375 867.1125 867.1375 867.5375 868.1750

Ill try adding the missing 4 channels and double check that its set as a MOT II tonight and post a reply if it helped or not.

Thanks for the suggestions!

All of the control channels are correct. They all need to be entered. They rotate in use, I believe around midnight every night. So, just put them all in there and your scanner should do the rest.

Still nothing but faint conversations with static. At this point I think Im either looking at a bad antenna or possibly something went wrong with my scanner. I have a new antenna on order, hopefully that will correct the problem.

Thanks for everyones input on this!

Well, I haven't had any problems lately. It depends on where you are at. I have alot of trouble, I can be in one spot, nothing, and move 20 ft. and hear everything. I also use a stock antenna and 15% of the time, poor signal. I had invested in the 800MHz scanner antenna from RS but of course I lost it. I think it worked ok. I have also used the racing antenna, and I believe it worked good also. As far as Hendricks County I dont think you are the only one having problems. I hear Plainfield fire fine from Indy but I dont listen to Plainfield or Avon often. Hope I helped.

I should be receiving my new RS 800 MHz antenna today. On the one question above, I can hera the NOAA channels clearly.

Ill let everyone know if the new antenna helps or not.

I've been listening to MECA off and on for the last few days and haven't heard the first radio traffic from Avon or Plainfield police. I can hear medic traffic on the listed talk groups but haven't had the first hit on the police groups. I don't know what's going on there. I can hear the rest of MECA fine.

I can't get Plainfield PD here on the south side of Indy. But when I'm in Hendricks Co. I can.

I live in Plainfield and work in Avon. I don't have any trouble picking up the MECA system in either place. It looks like Plainfield dispatchers are handling calls for Avon runs.
