• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have zero experience with this company... but when my life slows down.... I'm going to look into this ham radio prep course. ham radio prep course

it will be the ham radio operators with ham radios that get the important info out when the world goes side ways.
in an emergency they can do a lot.... they do a lot of search and rescue work to name just one..... and many other useful communications help, for communities in floods fires and other disasters.

Unless it was the wrong pot / can. If one of the cans was turned it would explain a lot of what’s going on.
Henceforth why I said " mod pot". Obviously it he was in there cranking around on other things it would explain a great deal.

I’ll bet very few CB’ers have thought that through.
Maybe today's CBers, I can assure you the group I hung out with even in the 70s and 80shad the same attitude. We might have used old radios and the old style swr type only meters or Drake W4 wattmeters but those guys were always double checking things pretty regularly. Man if we would had the analyzers we have today they would have been something. I always had my W4 in line in the van back then. Hit too many things that I was worried would splinter the 96 inch whip we ran for a time back then.

I'm not sure, but I seem to remember WASC829 lived in Michigan.... or Detroit or something like that... I could be wrong.... if he lives 75 miles from you, you might ask if he would be willing to help... not sure if there are any other Radio Reference users in Michigan... but all seem to be great guys and very helpful

Right, not arguing that, but there is a lot of bad info online / youtube, etc. An updated circuit board where the “pots” changed could wreck havoc on a radio if someone sticks their fingers in it and cranks the wrong “pot". Like not all Cobra 29’s use the same board. There are a few versions depending on what model/year 29 it is.

Close. Wisconsin. If he was within an hour or 2 i would have no problem traveling to try to help him out. (y)
