Avon to move dispatch duties to Farmington

They won’t ever get Simsbury to give up there dispatch centers

Why not?
I would imagine it is more cost effective to have a regional solution. I am not familiar with staffing at the PSAP's but a regional approach will likely have more than one person on duty at a time. I believe the state offers financial incentives to regionalize as well.
There are PSAP's than handle populations greater than the entire state of Connecticut and they do it with ease. I dont see why we need ~106 of them.

I don't know what Jason was referring to about Simsbury... I don't know if Simsbury PD would or not but HELL OR HIGH WATER, Fire would never agree, it is it's own entity, they didn't even want anything to do with the Harris system.

Unbelievable... well not really. It's New England where everyone has to have their own everything.

A dispatcher issue not unique to your area. I live in a town wherein dispatch sounds like it's straight from Mayberry RFD. More often than not, the dispatcher sounds annoyed when a car calls in. The officers on patrol treat the radio much like a telephone. They pick up the mic and start
talking (usually not into the mic!) . No unit ID and a pause for the dispatcher to acknowledge. YIKES! This is a town where many years ago an officer was shot and no one answered his radio call...my department was on the same frequency...we heard it..we responded..put him in the back of a cruiser and made transport to the nearest ER. Several other such (not as severe) incidents have occurred. Lack of APCO standards training and supervision places the officer's life on the line with poorly trained and supervised dispatchers.

The midnight shift dispatching stopped when the temporary contract expired in January
The following is a quote from the Town of Farmington’s Chair Report, dated 6-9-25, which is posted on the Town’s website;
“ The Farmington Town Council voted to authorize the Town Manager to sign an interlocal dispatch agreement with the Town of Avon. This consolidation will enhance service to residents in both Farmington and Avon through increased dispatcher coverage, improved technology and interoperability,
and increased State subsidies.”
Farmington’s Dispatch Center will be responsible for both town’s police and fire departments and Burlington’s fire department, not to mention the two AMR ambulances Farmington has contracted for Farmington (which are dispatched on Farmington’s fire dispatch frequency.) Avon also uses AMR but I am not familiar with how Avon is dispatched, or will be once the transition period is complete.
