If I were going to recommend a "new" digital scanner it would have to be in this order for someone who is just starting out in scanners and don't know how to program a trunked system:
PSR-800
HomePatrol-1
PSR-500
BCD396XT
I haven't bought a new scanner in probably seven or eight years, so I'm excited how far they've come but sort of leery about how complicated they may be to program.
I like the ease that the PSR-800 seems to offer, but I'm told you can't add frequencies on the fly. I feel like that will limit me (although I'm not specifically sure why). The flip side is that I don't have a PhD and I don't want to have to get one for the PSR-500.
If I go the 500 route, what software would you recommend for programming? I'm told that only a fool or a mad scientist would program it from the keyboard.
