It's a beauty isn't it?? Great history. I saw the B-17, B24, and B-25 last month at Pompano air park. Quite a sight, and a great tribute to those whose bravery and sacrifice won W.W II. Austin

I nearly lost my job at the airport for taking a ride in one last September.

Got written up, but it was well worth it haha. How many of you can say you've looked through a working Norden Bombsight while in the air? :D

HAHA, no I actually work at the FBO at KCHS/ AFB.

Even had a few AF Majors and my own father tell me that was something worth losing a job over.

You'd be surprised at how quiet these things really are. But once on the inside, they shake you to death. We were crusing at 1000'...I can only imagine how it was at FL350.

CLB,

You lucky (censored)! A flight in a B-17 is definitely worth losing your job, your wife, your girlfriend, or even all 3 together!

I was fortunate enough to walk through one at an airshow in Reading, PA and was impressed with how cramped the interior is. I couldn't even imagine being the ball turret gunner...though the tail gunner position wasn't much better. Of course at 30-35,000 feet I not so sure I'd want to be one of the waist gunners!

B17 is one of the most beatiful pieces of flying metal ever designed by man.
Royals Royce or Prat and Whitney...outstanding engineering.

F4 Phantom is another aircraft I truly enjoy.

HAHA! You're not the first to say that. Kind of a perk of the company dumping 1500 gallons of 100LL in the tanks. The best part, they were charging $400 rides, and I got mine free!

Being a waist gunner.....hell no. That window is actually pretty big, you can fall out if you lean forward enough. They actually opened the radio compartment roof up and let us stick our faces out over the top of the aircraft.

All in all, one of the best experiences of my life. Hands down.
