I think I found a bug.

If I set Set Replay Duration to 30 sec then use the Open Squelch option for the Backlight, the backlight illuminates when the squelch is opened and turns turn off after the squelch is closed. This is as it should be.

If I set Set Replay Duration to OFF then use the Open Squelch option for the Backlight, the backlight illuminates when the squelch is opened but it fails to turn off after the squelch is closed.

I have a brand new BCD436HP, just got it today. I immediately installed the latest 1.09.02 firmware. I believe the Set Replay Duration OFF option is new to this FW release, so maybe this is a bug.

Thanks,

Jack

Just tried it... Seeing the same thing... Open squelch for backlight... Stays on if the record function is set to off...

That's a nice oop's... Yes that feature was added in the new firmware to turn the recording off... Was not in the previous version.

Correction to my above post...

"recording" should be "replay"

If you enable the recording function... The backlight on with open squelch works ok.. Goes off when squelch closed... Disable the recording function... Backlight on squelch open and off when closed still ok...

Turn the scanner off and back on... Backlight on with open squelch is stuck on again.

This is only with firmware version 1.09.02
I see this on my 436... The 536 will probably do the same thing.

I didn't test on my BCD536HP as I set the backlight to always be ON since I use it as a base unit in my shack. I'll check in a bit to see if this bug affects it too.

EDIT: Just confirmed that this bug affects the BCD536HP as well as the BCD436HP.

It looks like if you have Replay or Recording enabled, the backlight will turn off. If neither is enabled, the backlight will stay on. Maybe this is by design so you can see details about the transmission since you can't go back and check the recording.

Why would they do something like that... There already is a setting in the display menu to have the backlight stay on constantly.

I answered your question in my post, but it was just speculation. The infinite setting might be in case you do want to record something and leave the backlight on.

I don't remember seeing the "Infinite" setting for the backlight before but I see it now.

For now, just set replay to on and the backlight should go off between transmissions.

I also found that if you set replay off and toggle the record function on and then off the backlight on open squelch works like it should.
That is until you power the radio off and then back on... Then the display is stuck in the on state again.
