Notice for the few couple of days getting a lot of busy tones and when this happens I see the big E on top of scanner for encryption (whistler TRX1). Still getting lots traffic though cops and all. Heard dispatch tell one of the officers he was on clear channel and needed to go to primary channel other day and didn't hear him say anything else. Wonder if they are getting ready to go encrypt.

There has been talk of them encrypting for 2-3 years now. Looks like they finally got the motivation to do so. I’ll park DSD on it for a few days and see what the new TG is. There has been some increased clear traffic on TG72 today during the chase they had.

Thanks! Strange thing is I'm also hearing it after a transmission in the clear also.

Well pretty sure the jail house is now encrypted. Everytime scanner stops on their channel I get the busy tone with the encryption symbol. I use to get all sorts of traffic from them. So looks like Banks is about to be quiet! Also does this on about half of the dispatch channel now.

Confirmed with DSD jail is encrypted. SO is encrypted as well
Thanks thats what I was thinking. once in a while will hear talk on Tac2 but just mainly them calling out numbers/letters. Been scanning Banks since the 70s was good while it lasted!

just wondering...what from the logs you show tells what it is? The Key ID, short transmit time or ? From what I see the he TG are the same. I know I always heard they just had to turn encryption on that it was that easy. Thanks again for looking I figure it would be soon this happened.

Looks like they are just using the standard NXDN scrambling feature. Key ID 1. Nothing crazy secure but it’s enough to keep the scanners out.

will EMS and Fire follow suit?
Yes. They are encrypted as of today. Kind of pointless though since it’s patched to VHF for paging.

Did hear traffic think it was on 458.61875. Was a banks County officer on the 441 bypass. heard him call in a stop but didn't hear dispatch or anything else afterwards. Other than that nothing except the road crew.

All FIRE/EMS/SHERIFF Talkgroups encrypted as of 5/18. These talkgroups also bridged to FleetTalk for out of county coverage. The analog VHF fire channel is in the process of being turned down. Public Works talkgroups were not encrypted.

Thanks for the info...guess I will just listen to the road crew now.

So they are going to give a radio to each volunteer FF, not a pager? Otherwise, I can't see how they can not leave VHF alone?
